Route Accounting

Route accounting consists of established customers being visited at some consistent intervals. You get to decide whether to visit a customer every week, every other week, monthly, etc... You can also have several combinations within Route Accounting. For instance, you can have a pre-seller, a salesperson who doesn't carry inventory but is allowed to place orders, send an order to be deliver by a driver at some scheduled visiting date. In this case, the truck will be loaded, in reverse order of delivery, with the exact amount of product to be delivered. The driver/salesperson will also have all the orders loaded in their equipment. This is still consider Route Accounting because both, pre-seller and driver, have a pre-defined route.

You can also have a salesperson/driver that sells product to "stock up" your customer's bins. This model is commonly referred as a peddler. In the case of a peddler, he/she will begin the route loaded with enough product to satisfy the route. This route could be a multi-day route and it can also be delivery by contracted salespersons.

EzRoute (Windows Mobile version of the software) can be used for pre-sell and peddle while EzRouteDE (tablet version of the software) is normally used for pre-sell only.

A lot of factors could help you decide on your business model such as: size of the delivery vehicles, temperature control of your products (freezer or cooler), allowable product shelf time, cost of the vehicle, number of SKU that you sell, etc... Having pre-sellers will help you deliver more product with your current vehicle fleet but you will incur the expense of an additional salesperson to do the ordering. If you use the peddler model, you will normally tend to overload the vehicles with product and you will run the risk of stopping at customers who could be serviced at the next visiting schedule because they still have enough products in their shelves.
